Background & Expertise

Before coming to Daytona Beach, John Zawisza worked in Southington, Connecticut at the Popular Restaurant as the Head Chef.  The Popular Restaurant was in business for 50 years, from 1937-1987 and became a landmark location.  John cooked at the Popular Restaurant for such famous celebrities as baseball legend Mickey Mantle, boxing great Willy Pepe, Yankee manager Billy Martin, Paul Newman and Billie Jean King.  John also cooked regularly for large wedding parties in the restaurant's famous Rose Room.

In 1982, John moved to Daytona Beach and began a new career in real estate and resort management.  Today John is married to wife Joanne.  They have 2 children: daughter, Aldea and son, Joshua.

Now, after living in the Daytona Beach area for 20 years, John "Z" as he is known by his friends and business contacts, has opened his newest venture, called Popular Ristorante.  This Italian eatery is named in honor of Horace and Edna Secondo, the founders of the original location in Connecticut.
